khd studio was founded in Hangzhou in 2019. It is a design firm focused on brand identity, and it periodically develops interesting home and cultural products.
The studio name khd is an abbreviation of KuoHuDesign; the brackets symbolize inclusiveness and the capacity to contain anything. This reflects the studio’s philosophy: to remain undefined and without limits.
The clock face of “NOR CLOCK” is produced in collaboration with a heritage kite workshop in Weifang, China. It employs the curved, fire-bending technique used on traditional “paper kites” to form a bamboo framework. A precise one-piece mounting process is also used to create the clock face as a single unit. The clock body frame is assembled from a metal shaft and 12 connecting components, exposing a distinctive structural beauty.
The collision of traditional craft and modern industry gives NOR CLOCK a unique visual experience in which handmade and mechanical elements are layered together. “N⑧R CLOCK” carries forward NOR’s philosophy — Neither Defined Nor Limited — combining kite and time, and imparting the years with a sense of lightness.
